Celebrating Friendships between Singaporean and British Communities
Angles of Incidence comprises a family of reflective elements that creates a dynamic relationship between the installation and its environment. Through this work, the artists seek to engage and encourage Singapore and UK communities to reflect on heritage and memory.
The fourth edition of SIF Connects! London was held on 4 June 2014 at the iconic Inner Temple Gardens in central London. It brought together some 100 SIF alumni, partners and new Friends of Singapore (FOS) to celebrate the launch of the Angles of Incidence public art installation - a collaboration between Singaporean artist-architect Randy Chan and British artist Philippa Lawrence. Randy and Philippa are the third pair of collaborators under the Singapore International Foundation-British Council Artist-in-Residence exchange (SIF-BC AiRx) programme for promoting cross-cultural interaction, understanding and collaboration.

SIF Connects! London also saw the launch of the London-leg of the SIF-BC AiRx photo competition where visitors to the Angles of Incidence installation are invited to reflect on and share their perspectives on heritage and memories on Instagram (#SIFBCAiRx). The good turnout of FOS at the fourth SIF Connects! London reflects the strong friendships and deepening of relationships between Singaporean and British communities, and the power of connecting communities through arts and culture. We look forward to seeing you at our next SIF Connects! event.
Angles of Incidence will be displayed at the Inner Temple Gardens from 4 June – 20 July 2014 before it returns to Singapore for the annual Singapore Night Festival in August 2014.
The SIF-BC AiRx programme is a residential and cultural immersion programme that provides Singaporean and British artists with the opportunity to gain new insights, understanding and inspiration through interacting and exchanging perspectives with foreign communities, while assuming the role of ambassadors to promote awareness and to bridge communities. The programme culminates with SIF-BC AiRx participants collaborating on works that reflect insights gained and their experiences on the residency programme. www.airx.sg
