Songs from the Heart of Kupang
Indonesian and Singaporean artists came together to effect positive change through The Kupang Project, a year-long collaboration in 2016 under the SIF Arts for Good initiative. The artists collaborated to introduce arts-based activities into the educational programme of the Roslin Orphanage in Kupang, Indonesia. They also conducted Train-the-Trainers workshops, to enable caregivers at the orphanage to continue the programme for future residents.
In 2017, two artists – Indonesian jazz musician Nita Aartsen and Singaporean composer Clement Chow – have taken the project a step further to create a music album ‘Songs from the Heart of Kupang’. The duo wrote and composed music inspired by their interactions with the residents of the Roslin Orphanage, and produced an album featuring the voices of residents of the Roslin Orphanage with contributions from international musicians. Proceeds from the sale of the album will go to the orphanage.
