Occupational Therapy for Children with Special Needs in Jakarta
Riding on the success of an earlier special education (SPED) project in Medan, Indonesia, the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) launched a four-year SPED training project in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 25 February 2019. The project, Occupational Therapy for Children with Special Needs, aims to enhance support for children with special needs in the city.
During the project, a team of Singapore International Volunteers (SIVs) comprising occupational therapists from KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) will share their knowledge, skills and experiences in occupational therapy with their Indonesian peers. Over 2,000 members of the Indonesian community are expected to benefit from the project, including patients and their families, teachers, volunteers, and other supporting therapists.
“With this collaboration between the SIF and YPAC Jakarta, my hope is that similar organisations and ourselves will be empowered to provide educational opportunities for the wider community. There are many stakeholders involved in the special education sector, and we need to work together towards achieving our goals. We would like to thank our friends from Singapore for their contributions towards making these collaborations happen.” – Robiyatun Adawiyah, Occupational Therapist, YPAC Jakarta.
