SIF Connects! Jakarta 2018
The SIF celebrated the power of friendships by reengaging with our Indonesian Friends of Singapore at SIF Connects! Jakarta on 22 September. This event marked the seventh SIF Connects! in Indonesia since 2011, with past editions held in Jakarta and Bandung. This year, the focus was on Singapore-Indonesia collaborations in education.
The highlight of the event was a sharing session themed ‘Education for a Better World’. The panel comprised the SIF’s volunteers and partners who have championed for positive impact in this field. They were (in alphabetical order) Ibu Dedeh Suatini, partner in the Integrated Education project (Bandung); Bapak Budi Soehardi, partner in The Kupang Project (Kupang); Bapak Moch N. Kurniawan (Iwan), SIF-ASEAN Fellow; Mr Teguh Daniel Tampemawa, specialist volunteer for the Integrated Education project (Bandung); and Mr Maurice Tan, direct service volunteer for Words on Wheels (Bandung, Yogyakarta) and Water for Life (Lamongan) programmes.
We also gave special thanks to Iwan for his valuable contributions as the SIF Representative in Jakarta (2011-18), and welcomed our new Representative Ibu Dian Mashari, chairperson of Indonesia Bright Foundation (IBF) and alumnus of the SIF’s International Symposium Singapore programme in 2005.
“I am very honoured to be appointed as the next SIF Representative in Jakarta. I believe that this will be the start of an exciting and inspiring journey as we work together in building deeper friendships between our two communities. As the Chairperson of the IBF, I am also of the view that our organisation shares the same goal as the SIF where we believe quality education is crucial for sustainable development. I look forward to future collaborations in creating positive impact,” shared Dian.
The event was graced by Ambassador Anil Kumar Nayar, Singapore Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia and Bapak Adi Nuryanto, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture.
Held in various cities, SIF Connects! is a platform to reconnect with our overseas friends, partners and programme alumni. Since 1992, Singaporean and Indonesian communities have collaborated in over 100 SIF initiatives.
