Little by Little
Little by Little, launched in October 2011, is a monthly series of cultural exchanges where SIF partners the international community in Singapore to promote understanding and appreciation of different cultures towards bridging Singaporeans and world communities. The programme focuses on engaging the diplomatic and professional community in Singapore.
Arts Connection: Little by Little (High Commission of Malaysia)
Our Malaysian friends shared insights on various Malay dances, topping it off with a lesson and "live" demonstration of the Balqis dance, a contemporary and fast-paced number. In return, the LAA students "reciprocated" with a self-choreographed piece fusing elements of traditional and contemporary Indian dance.
Arts Connection: Little by Little (Young Business Ambassadors)
Our Chinese friends shared insights on both modern and ancient China, juxtaposing and contrasting Shanghai art precincts in the cosmopolitan city, with age-old traditional art of Chinese paper-cutting, dating back to 6th century A.D. This concluded with a paper-cutting craft workshop. The LAA students "reciprocated" with a sharing of Chinese words unique to Singapore, as well as Chinese New Year and Chinese wedding customs commonly practised in Singapore. This generated lively discussion, with our Chinese friends commenting on the similarities and differences between the two countries.
