A Race to Discover Singapore
Singapore, 23 July 2010 — On 17 July 2010, over 100 students from 11 different countries traversed the island in The Singapore Challenge, a race organised by the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) in partnership with Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP).
In the style of The Amazing Race, 13 teams of eight solved clues and completed challenges during the cross-country dash that included students from NYP, as well as Ngee Ann, Singapore and Temasek polytechnics.
Seeking to introduce international students to Singapore while developing and deepening friendships with their peers from Singapore and abroad, the race saw students forming teams comprising at least three different nationalities, of which one was Singaporean.
After exploring the East Coast, Fort Canning Park, Marina Barrage and the estates of Ang Mo Kio, the race ended at the SIF office, where prizes were awarded to the first three teams that successfully completed all tasks.
First place was awarded to team Banana Split (pictured above) from Singapore Polytechnic (SP), while second and third place prizes went to Chapalang from NYP and Fuiyoh! from SP, respectively. A bonus award for most creative photograph was also presented to Sakai from NYP.
